Description

Cabanex is specifically prescribed to treat a hormone imbalance in which a person secretes too much prolactin, a condition known as hyperprolactinemia. It contains cabergoline, a drug that has been found effective at treating hyperprolactinemia. Prolactin is a natural substance that helps nursing mothers to produce milk, but excessive secretion of prolactin causes infertility, bone loss, and sexual issues. Cabanex is also advised as an adjunctive therapy for patients with acromegaly.

Cabergoline has been found highly effective in suppressing hyperprolactinemia, which is present in 20 to 30 percent of acromegaly cases. It is also prescribed to men with a high level of prolactin secretion, which causes decreased sexual desire and enlarged breasts. Apart from treating hyperprolactinemia in men and women, cabergoline is prescribed for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease, a neurological disorder that causes involuntary movements, and difficulties with muscle control and balance.

Product Description

Active Drug Information

Cabergoline is the active drug present in Cabanex, which belongs to a class of drugs called dopamine receptor agonists. The empirical formula of cabergoline is C26H37N5O2 and its molecular weight is 451.62. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved this drug for hyperprolactinemia in 1993. Cabergoline is available in white powder that is soluble in chloroform and ethyl alcohol, and slightly soluble in hydrochloric acid. It is insoluble in water.

Mechanism of Action

Cabanex (Cabergoline) is an ergot drug that works by inhibiting or blocking the secretion of prolactin, a hormone that is secreted from the pituitary gland. Simply put, it works by reducing the secretion of prolactin in both men and women. The production of prolactin by the pituitary gland is through dopamine release under hypothalamic inhibitory control. Cabanex is one of the dopamine receptor inhibitor, exerting direct inhibitory effects on the production of prolactin by the pituitary gland. The drug reduces serum prolactin levels.

Generally, Cabanex is well tolerated; however, it can cause some psychiatric side effects, such as depression, anorexia, insomnia, anxiety, or impaired concentration.

Women who get pregnant during treatment, the risk of premature delivery, abortion, or congenital abnormalities is unknown. Currently, there is no adequate or well-controlled study of the drug during pregnancy.

  1. John Burns

I was suffering from severe respiratory tract infection. My doctor had prescribed me Cabanex. It is available in the form of an injection. It contains Cefoperazone sodium 500 mg and Sulbactam 500 mg as the active constituents. This medication effectively fights the bacterial infection. My infection was cured using Cabanex. I ordered this medication at a cheaper rate from ClickPharma.
